RTTS academy to become the "Carl Jamieson Training Academy"

It gives us great pleasure to announce the re-naming of our training academy for a much-loved and respected former colleague Carl Jamieson. We see this as a warming tribute to a colleague who will always be remembered as a thoughtful and respected member of our team and as someone who had a tremendous passion and interest for the railway. Carl worked with many of us here for over 15 years and was active in delivering many signalling projects over that period of time. He sadly passed away in 2016, but will always be remembered with fondness by us all and to rename our academy as “The Carl Jamieson Training Academy” is a testament to his popularity.

Carl began his railway career as a 16 year old trainee technician where he worked for British Rail and learnt his S&T skills which were key to his love of the railway. He moved up  the signalling ranks before moving onto Balfour Beatty and then Amey for a period of time, before settling his roots with us as a Project Engineer and then a Professional Head of Signalling role.

There will be many people who will pass under Carl’s plaque whilst training with us. They will be probably never have met Carl personally, but hopefully by seeing his plaque they will recognise that he was a much loved colleague by us all.

Transport for London select RT Training Solutions to prepare its engineers for maintaining the Elizabeth line.

The Elizabeth line will stretch more than 60 miles from Reading and Heathrow in the west through central tunnels across to Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east.
The new railway - currently being built by Crossrail Ltd. - will stop at 41 accessible stations, 10 newly built and 30 newly upgraded, and is expected to serve around 200 million people each year.

In December 2018, the line will launch into service under the management of TFL who already manage London’s growing transport network consisting of London Underground, buses, trains, trams, riverboats and cycle hire as the central tunnels under London open.

With all the above in mind it’s not surprising that TFL has recognised the importance of having a change-ready competent workforce prepared to Manage and deliver the day to day reliability and maintenance of this nationally critical piece of infrastructure.

As part of the line’s plans it has introduced an ambitious training program designed to develop significant team knowledge whilst transferring and delivering effective reskilling of new employees and managers, equipping them with skills to achieve its vision of delivering a world class railway.

Fundamental to this program is the selection of RT Training Solutions Ltd as one of the UKs leading Signaling Training providers who have been picked to inspire and engage over 300 learners by creating immersive, practical and classroom based technical training that will supplement that being delivered by the lines construction companies and create a lasting change.

So far, Employees who are appreciating the level of personal investment being made in them have engaged with the learning so successfully that many have volunteered to become ‘Change Champions’: helping colleagues to adapt to innovative ways of working.

And with an aspiration that by the lines’ official opening - 96% of its Maintenance Engineers will have undertaken training in the required aspects of Railway Signaling Maintenance, KPI targets around work completed are expected to significantly increase post-handover.

RT Training Solutions Ltd have created a truly engaging, innovative training experience to develop change-ready workforces, who are on track to deliver a service that is world class”.
